In 2018, IOM conducted a comprehensive Situational Analysis of Migrant Health in the Maldives to develop a baseline understanding of the healthcare needs of migrant workers in the Maldives and suggest recommendations for policy interventions to better address the needs of migrants. As the Maldives largely attracts individuals who are in the healthy working age from South Asia, the report notes that steps can be taken to support their physical and mental health, and the population, by enhancing awareness and increasing access to facilities.
IOM continues to closely work with national partners to develop a migration health policy for the Maldives by supporting policy development and interagency coordination. IOM seeks to extend its technical and operational support on prevention and treatment of non-communicable and communicable diseases, in order to ensure equitable access and service delivery for migrants in the Maldives.
