IOM contributes to strengthening migration management systems in the Maldives by building national capacity to develop and implement effective migration policies and procedures.
Since 2020, IOM has been supporting the Government of Maldives to develop an Integrated Border Management Strategy to support interagency cooperation and coordination. This process has been complemented by the conduct of capacity building workshops for policymakers to enhance understanding of an integrated approach to border management across agencies.
Furthermore, IOM has provided Verifier TD&B equipment and related training for enhanced screening and secondary examination of travel documents, and is being used at Velana Airport, Male’.
