Given the unique geography of the Maldives, disaster risk reduction (DRR) is a critical area of involvement for IOM.
As part of its Migration, Environment and Climate Change programme, IOM is conducting research on the present and apprehended impact of climate change on human mobility in the Maldives, to support policy making to develop disaster risk reduction strategies.
IOM also conducts awareness raising sessions in island communities to improve their knowledge of climate resilience practices.
IOM also advocates for inclusion vulnerable migrants, including victims of trafficking in crisis response planning.
